The occult doom rock is alive.
The Sabbathian is a band that has the guys from Hour of 13 (Chad Davis) and the Norwegian singer Anette Uvaas Gulbrandsen (Nàttsòl). The band has also Joey Downs from Altar Blood.
The sound is mix of Black Sabbath and Candlemass (and other Doom bands from the past), which means, heavy guitars, serpentine riffs, slow-motion drums, and fat basslines.
Plus they deal with a huge amount of occultism (as it sounds) and the atmosphere gets heavier as each of the three songs pass. Actually this is a 19-minute EP.
None of the tunes are highlights though. They are very alike: what changes here is the assimilation and subsequent digestion of the songs at each spin of Ritual Rites.
This is not the EP that will change the history of Doom Metal, but it is a great opus anyway. For doom-buffs this is a must-have!
Ritual Rites is out now on Svart.
