Lukewarm old school death metal
Trascëndental is a very unknown band (and I didn’t bother to ask anyway) but they can be classified as old school death metal.
The problem here is that they sound like an uneven mix of (old) Sepultura, Death, Cancer, Protector and so on.
While the sound is not exactly bad, there’s nothing inventive here, but that was the idea, wasn’t it? But while they have indeed good passages and changes of tempo with a good (but not excellent) drummer, it seems that the riffs are very run-of-the-mill. Sum it with almost one hour of music and it starts to get a little boring.
While on the onset they maintain the old school death metal agenda, by the middle of the disc they seem to subtly change to plain thrash metal mode, although it doesn’t endure for the remainder of the album, occasionally going back to some intricate death metal again.
This band is really subpar to what is being made in the death metal field, but still they can retain some dignity, and old-timers may like them.
Nothingness is out now on Xtreem Music.
