Italian Orthodox Black Metal.
First time I heard of Fides Inversa (Inverted faith) I was taken. I even bought a tee. I dug their debut album Hanc Aciem Sola Retundit Virtus (The Algolagnia Divine) a lot! The band came to be an object of cult to me, and how happy I was to discover I was going to hear their new album.
Mysterium Tremendum et Fascinans showcases all the vitality and obscurity of pure European Black Metal Kvlt!
First of all, the songs have no title, what increases their true and cult status to me.
Track I, is apparently an intro while Track II explodes in a delicious doctrinal Black Metal for those who long for the golden days of satanic black metal!
The Ride cymbal is there all the time in the old Scandinavian/European tradition! No crummy DSBM, no shabby Shoegaze, no icky “post-Black metal” bullshit! This is the real deal, second to none, first rate well produced Black Metal and nothing else.
Track III changes time signature all the time showing that they are not subpar just because they choose the traditional! They are very good musicians and this is what adds insult to injury.
12-minute long Track IV is fast and reliable. No compromising sound for orthodox metalheads and blacksters.
Another highlight is the last track (Track VII) that is not supbar to the aforementioned songs!
Bands like Fides Inversa are what make me believe that the real and true is alive and kicking. The faith in the satanic is not dead. It never was. It never will.
