BONEHUNTER – Children of the Atom – Hells Headbangers

Metal punk or just good ol’ school thrash metal?

bonehunter

I still just don’t know what is exactly metal punk. I’d prefer to call it by the name: blackened thrash metal in some cases (this album doesn’t sound like Venom or Darkthrone).

Nomenclatures aside, this album is fucking excellent. Pure rustic metal, muddy hardcore drums mixed in the backdrop of satanic thrash metal riffs varying from Motörhead to Kreator and even some old Voivod.

The vocals are sure to be from the most satanic black metal type!

The mastering left the sound really noisy, not good for complex composition although it works perfectly here.

After a short nuclear intro, Demonic Nuclear Armament destroys the neighborhood while in the Sex Messiah Android, the deadly sound echoes through Chernobyl!

But it’s in the title song that the things start to get really good. The dramatic intro gives place to a desperate desolation in sonic form. The 4/4 beat is cool, but the vocals should be louder in the final mix.

Is Black Star Carcass a homage to the British goregrind band that became Black Star (Rising)? Just wondering.

Spider’s grave is the best song for sure: it has the riffs of Kreator’s Tormentor. Of course, it’s just a nod as the core of the song is completely different, but even the final part is identical. This no one can miss.

Cybernetic Vampirism has the strong chorus of Children of the Atom, to repeat screaming!

Man of Steel is a Spiritus Mortis cover (the first Doom Metal band from Finland!) that is available just on CD.

Devil Signal Burst clocking in at 5 minutes has an entire part dedicated to an incredible solo and then the album ends!

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if one calls this band satanic thrash, blackened thrash or metal punk. The purity and sincerity that emanates is all that matters to real headbangers! Real and nuclear as fuck!

Children of the Atom is available TODAY in CD, LP and TAPE!

All My Sins – Pra Sila – Vukov Totem – Saturnal

Songs to celebrate the EQUINOX!

capa

I always knew that Slavic Black Metal was the thing, but of course, there are layers of it in different eras. Serbian band All My Sins represents the “original” second wave of Black Metal or something in between.

Granted, it’s very difficult to find a black metal band with this “something in between” Either the bands are extremely aggressive like in Blackened War Black Metal, or more delicate like in DSBM, post-black metal and nonsenses like that.

All My Sins started a long time ago, but just after some problems with lineup that the band was able to record their first album called Lunar-Sonar one year ago, and now Pra Sila – Vukov Totem comes with pure excellency!

First of all, one ought to bear in mind that the album has 8 tracks, while some of them are pretty long.

The sound has repetitive phrases, rare changes of tempo, and an excellent mixing and mastering.

The songs are extremely exciting, going to the frontier of blackened thrash metal, but never passing the boundaries, just like in the first song called Vukov Totem (that clocks in at 9+ minutes)

While Zov iz Magle and Vetrovo Kolo maintain the chaos, the track called U Mlazevima Krvi is highly fast and evil.

Opsena is the interesting one: although not the longest tune of the album, it brings three distinct parts, from brutal to atmospheric, shamelessly! I dug this one.

Konačna Ravnodnevica (Čin Prvi) is the lengthiest song of the album, not bringing too much creativity, but none less, being mega fun for die-hards of the old school style.

The exception to the rule is the track Konačna Ravnodnevica (Čin Drugi) (yes, I’ve got confused with the alike names as well), which brings to the fold exactly what I said the band negated: the sad and somewhat delicate sound in a sequence of repetitive riffs, but that doesn’t mar the rest of this wonderful album.

All My SinsPra Sila – Vukov Totem will be out on September 23rd via Saturnal to celebrate the last equinox of the year!

Late night call: Is Kiss calling it quits?

Old rumors circulating in the beginning of the year are back again!

Sem-Título-1

On February 8th Kiss registered the trademark “End of the Road” raising concern among fans that they were calling it quits.

However, it wasn’t until TODAY that they announced the hashtag #EndOftheRoad World Tour making something more feasible for real questions.

A mysterious video without sound suddenly appeared on Facebook and at the same time an animation appeared on their website www.kissonline.com/

No dates were announced though.

The legendary band has been around for some 45 years now. Let’s hope if this is really the end, everybody can be able to catch them on the “end of the road”.

kiss

KOMMANDANT – Blood Eel – ATMF

When hell breaks loose.

folder

Kommandant is a band that takes no prisoners: their attack is rabid and intransigent. But this time around the American band is working on a new level. A better one.

The first albums, although seem a musical progression of the band, showed a brutal form of war metal championed by bands like Blasphemy and the likes. Now they upgraded their production to a more understandable production: don’t get me wrong, there are more noxious than ever, but instead of sound like of an Ampütator of sorts, they reached a Marduk level.

Of course, nothing here is aping the Swedish band because Kommandant has enough fuel to create their own brand of Black Metal and man, they destroy!

Absolutum is a large intro, while the menace continues on the second track Blood Eel, where nothing happens at first minutes, just to explode in a brutal Black Metal with blasts all over one’s face!

What is the most important thing about this album? The riffs, of course. They get you in the title track and also in the third one called The Struggle: the extended repetition of them makes it easy to understand and to learn the riffs by heart with a few spins, which make this one the best song of the album. It isn’t just simple black metal, the intricacies are there, the difference are in the iterations.

The same happens with the fourth track called Ice Giant that unfortunately is not so cool as The Struggle, but the long phrases are there: clocking in at almost 10 minutes, it’s impossible to not learn the hopes of this song in particular.

Cimmerian Thrust takes a more dramatic turn, of course maintaining the cohesive factor of the album, but with some spoken words in between. The beginning and the final part of the songs preserves the killer riffage.

Aeon Generator with its metaphysic feelings, it’s just like a black hole of madness and extermination: without any doubt, the heavier tune of the album. The blatant and fierce drum attack causes confusion and are indicated only for die-hards of the style. Perfection in destruction.

Finally, the 8-minute long Moon… The Last Man packs the album with a torrent of violent music, the riffs with the drums being the stars over again here.

Maybe it’s difficult to fathom music by just reading about it, and in this particular case I couldn’t agree more. Blood Eel is an album that deserves to be truly listened and it will make the joy of those who can’t get enough of brutal music in their lives.

Bloody Eel is available NOW via ATMF on a 300-unit A5 edition and on 4-panel digipak!
