The unknown death metal masters.
The Glorious Dead was formed back in 2007 and released an EP that made no success. Back in this decade the band released a demo and now this 7” EP.
It’s normal for a band to change and they changed a lot and for the best.
Imperator of the Desiccated contains only two tracks of pure old school death metal, but it’s not a mere imitation of Autopsy and Entombed, forget it. It’s something way more brutal, almost like the blackened death metal that is being made today by countless bands, without Satan in the formula, which, of course, eliminates the “blackened” in the label. Anyway: this thing is a putrid real deal like in the old days.
As the EP contains only two tracks, lets dissect them (pun intended):
Mangled Cerebration is the studio track: well captured and mixed with an organic sound but with that stench of an old corpse in decomposition, the vocal does not follow a run-for-your-lives approach, is well structured the way it should always be.
The second and final track is called Celebrate the Corpse and here is the interesting thing; even being recorded live, it seems that the introduction was the guys speaking something in the studio, hence the studio quality and mastering of the song. A job very well done, since all the Ep’s that include a live track differs a lot from the studio track. With a doomish, mid-tempo approach it doesn’t lose its nexus and it’s very cohesive with the first track.
That is a must-have release. I’m just sorry it’s not a full-length.
Imperator of the Desiccated 7″ is going to be out on Bindrune/Eihwaz Recordings. Digital version already circulating on Bandcamp.
