Is black punk still a thing?
Although it made a huge impact, mainly through “punk” Darkthrone albums by the end of 2000’s and beginning of 2010’s, blackened punk seems to have lost its verve since then, and since the very DT seems to have abandoned the style a while ago to new ventures.
The thing here is very simple to understand: while DT albums sound, even today, like absolute classics, the imitators that it has generated are not!
Black Mold, from Portugal unfortunately falls into this category and having spinning the album a dozen times, it still sounds hollow and inane.
Songs like Meaningless Glue, Missing Link and Long Night although some may find interesting, go through the motions, like they were made inside the studio, just like the rest of the album which has no force and no wrath, leaving much to be desired even in the faster parts.
For example, General Pattern clocking in at one minute and something, brings a bogus sense of brutality that is not innate on the effort.
All and all The inheritance of Evil by Black Mold is a monotonous (ipsis litteris) effort to sound relevant, but the “evil” in the title doesn’t appear in music.
The Inheritance Of Evil is out now on Helldprod Records.
